Before 2013 only 3 states had laws that criminalized the unauthorized disclosure of sexually explicit images of adults. Today, 46 states + DC have laws that specifically prohibit this behavior, federal legislation has been introduced, and the material is prohibited by mainstream social media platforms and internet intermediaries. And yet, individuals who fall victim to online “sextortion” schemes or image-based abuse generally don’t know what to do, and lawyers often don’t know how to help them. This one-hour webinar dissects the current legal and social landscape of “revenge porn” and provide you with practical tips on how best to navigate both the criminal and civil arenas.

    Speakers:
    • Mary Anne Franks, Professor of Law & Dean's Distinguished Scholar, University of Miami School of Law; President and Legislative & Tech Policy Director, Cyber Civil Rights Initiative; author of The Cult of Constitution: Our Deadly Devotion to Guns and Free Speech (Stanford Press, 2019)
    • Mona Sedky, Federal Prosecutor, U.S. Department of Justice; Forbes "America's Top 50 Women in Tech 2018"
    Moderator:
    • Elisa D'Amico, Partner at K&L Gates and Co-Chair, ABA Forum on Communications Law Digital Communications Committee
